Self Critique

A.)
1. 8.5
2. It left me thinking that I needed more scenes to illustrate the full idea of the movie.
3. I felt a sense of wonder to figure out her intentions.
4. I felt that the importance of the initial story is how life can be ironic.
5. The theme I got from it at the end was that we all have the choice to voice and act on our own opinions.

B.)
1. I thought the story was a little vague on my first edit, but just a couple of new scenes and I felt an audience could get the gist of it.
2. The scene of the argument was the most effective to me. The ending could have been better realized.

C.)
1. I can honestly say that it does feel complete now that the final edit is done.
2. 8- I feel like some shots are very weak but with stronger scenes it balances out the bad.
3. The elements that were strong were the close-ups on the characters. The weak were the medium shots and their composition.

D.)
1. I understand the camera I just need to work on angle and direction of camera. I also don’t understand the ND filter to the fullest, but I hope to in the future.
2. I feel that more practice with the equipment will get me to the position that I desire to achieve.

My Edit

I really enjoyed working on my edit. It was very hard to understand the color correction and hopefully in the future i can grasp this tool and use it to its fullest potential. It was also a very hilarious process because i was working besides Yubu and we would enter music on certain parts and we felt the cheesiness rise from the ashes. Nonetheless it was still a learning process.

Lighting

Team Cinema decided to go up to the studio on Friday to shoot our lighting sequence. We chose a random citizen of the school to pose for us and she was very patient. I say this because each time we thought of a new shot someone else thought of one inspired and based off the previous. I feel we captured some really nice shots and really got experimental with the lights. I, along with the rest of the group, had a really fun time shooting our model.

On Location

So, when team cinema went on location we had a very productive day. When we were there we set up with no problem. It was a very nice day on Saturday and we got out pretty early. It went smoothly because everyone chose which piece of location they wanted to take their shots so it was no butting heads with that. I loved the shots i got downtown. We then moved to our second location which was on the inside. We all remembered to change the white balance on the camera and then soon realized that we didn't do the same on the location outside. We were very disappointed and it was dark outside so we couldn't reshoot that day. The film came out a blue tint because we had the white balance on fluorescent. A careless mistake, made our footage not as nice! :( Although true, it was an overall nice experience, plus we went back and shot.

Group Time

So, Team Cinema has been meeting a lot and we feel pretty fruitful in our harvest. Over the course of the weekend we came together and really worked out the problems in our story. We even created a rough dialogue! From there Yubu and I came together and formed a more uniformed script with dialogue. Then we presented it to the rest of the group (Angelique, Aminah, and Christa) and we all finalized it. I feel that we got a lot accomplished and I am very eager to hear what Jill thinks about it.

Readings and Videos

I really enjoyed all the information that was posted on the blog. I really enjoyed the video showing the depth of field because in made a huge difference in the cinematic quality of the shot. Just the simple shots that he compared with the original footage and the polarizer inspired me and gave me more of a hope (not that it wasn't any hope before) that our group's movie can turn out amazing. "When White Balance Goes Wrong." I really enjoyed this on because of its dry humor and it was very easy to follow along with it. Jill was very right when she stated that the video focusing on the science of histograms had a very cheesy beginning yet the video was very informing. The beginning scenes, in my opinion, that were not needed, reminded me of a cheap porn film. I feel that i got some good notes down from the readings and the videos and every set of information interested me in its own way.

The Argument

I found an interesting video about a popular debate. Science versus Religion. This shows the one sided look on views from both sides and the outcome of these different views. It also show the extent one side will go at trying to express a belief.

Readings 2

The readings, worksheet, and character analyzation questions helped a lot in the process of creating our story. When going into detail with our story, we really were missing a lot. These things helped solve that problem of the flat character we initially had in the beginning. "What the audience needs:" This list allowed us to check off what we had. Although some of the links did not work, there was enough information to go to if needed.

Team Cinema

After a long discussion of what to include and take out of the story, we as a team came to a solid stopping point. I enjoyed the group discussion because it opened up so many possibilities we didn't even consider the first time we adjourned on a common understanding of what we wanted to do. Everyone had great input to include and each member was considered in the process of elimination in the film. Our group is going very well and hopefully we can keep this transition smooth entering into the actual script and execution of the film.

Readings

I really enjoyed the readings. I really was amazed at the script editing part of the readings. It really broke down how a script is formed and it was very helpful. When reading the script, i really could visualize every seen without even watching the provided clips (which actually didn't play because of plug-in problem)

The Team's Goal

So our group came to a decision that our goal would be to give every side of a story or opinion and let the viewer to take whatever thoughts he or she would like to take.

My Individual Goals

I really would like to allow people to gain new knowledge of a subject if they only had one view o f situations and subjects. I'm not saying that i am able to see every side of any situation, but i feel i am very close. I also would like to create beautiful imagery to engage an audience and magnify their experience through vision. I would like the actions and expressions of a character to speak louder than dialogue. I really would like my audience to get lost in the story line and find themselves really wondering after about new crazy ideas of "what if?"

Movie Review

The movie that had a big influence on my life was 1998's movie, "Murder of Crows," starring Cuba Gooding Jr. This movie intrigued me because it had a factor and element of surprise. It kept the audience to the edge of their seat because of the fact that Cuba was accused of a crime he didn't commit and the audience knew that he didn't. This story line inspired me to write my very own book in 7th grade. I like how every prop in the movie was very convincing to bring the movie to a convincing point. If the makeup didnt work for a certain character then the plot would have been ruined. The movie also had a balance of dialogue and action. This movie is very amazing and it blew my mind!

Digital Cinema First Assignment

During this first assignment i really had to think hard back in my memory banks and remind myself of all the significant things that has happened in my life. This was a great exercise and i really did channel some stories that I had simply forgot about. It brought back good memories for me. I didn't find these questions difficult because in a way I have had these answers stored in my brain waiting to be released. Hopefully I will be ready to orally present these thoughts. At my first try of reciting my speech i did horrible which just made me realize that though these are my thoughts its another task to project them verbally.
I really loved the film selection because each film had some strange element to offer. The first film selection was very odd and surrealistic which captured my attention. The insert of the film next on the list had a very cinematic smooth feel to it. The third film insert, 2046, had a very interesting story. American beauty had a bright comedic feel to it and i love comedies.
When watching the tutorials I realized how interesting this media is! It amazed me to actually understand the techniques that are used to make a film look like a film. I also realized that none of the information left my mind either. I have new information and hopefully it won't go anywhere.
